The Jalore Wildlife Sanctuary is located on the private lands of Baronet Balwant Singh Chouhan. The first and only privately owned and operated wildlife sanctuary in India. These lands of savannah, scrub and deciduous forests surrounded by Granite Mountains were a gift from the Royal family of Jodhpur seven generations ago to the Kaniwara Chouhan family. The Baronet, his sons Ravindra Singh Chouhan and Peeko Chouhan, Shanane Davis, and Gajendra Singh Chouhan established the Jalore Wildlife Sanctuary in 2005 to protect this rare eco-system and its diverse flora and fauna. The Jalore Wildlife Sanctuary connects to a nationally protected forest with access available only through the Jalore Wildlife Sanctuary.
